Coaching Sessions for Speakers, Moderators, and Panelists
Joel Wald, from McAlinden Associates, will conduct a series of one-to-one and small group practice sessions to enhance your contribution to Forum 2020. This page outlines the objectives, suggests a few things to think about to prepare, and asks you to respond to three questions.
Objectives
Commonfund would like the diverse audience of current and prospective investors and partners to think that you are a credible and approachable thought leader in your area of expertise. Panels should be seen as genuine conversations that deliver valuable insights, without feeling scripted.
To those ends, Joel will help you increase your ability to:
- Engage the audience — by projecting presence and energy
- Hold attention — through clear, concise statements that are connected to the audience’s needs and concerns
- Focus on a few memorable messages — by pairing a limited number of points with compelling facts and relatable stories/examples
- Create and contribute to a conversation — among the audience, moderator and panelists
- Answer questions credibly — by starting with the answer and being brief and confident
Be ready to take feedback and try different approaches. The sessions will give you specific recommendations for ways to improve within your own personality.
To prepare, think through:
- What is your overall message — that is, the one thing you would like people to remember?
- What are the few ideas, statistics and stories you would like to get across?
- Moderators: How will you frame the discussion?
- Moderators and panelists: What are five questions you may be asked?
This website will not save your input. If you want a copy, save a pdf or print it for yourself before hitting the submit button below. When you hit submit, your answers will be emailed to Joel.
