Communicating to Build Productive Relationships

This program will strengthen your ability to create and deliver clear, confident and convincing communications that engage your internal and external stakeholders — and motivate them to take action. You will build skills for presentations, meetings, one-to-ones, and impromptu interactions.

The program is in two parts. Each part is two-and-a-half days, divided into five half-day blocks. If your program starts Monday morning, it will end by lunchtime on Wednesday.  If your program starts on Wednesday afternoon, it will conclude at the end of the day on Friday.

You will practice in small groups so your time is used efficiently.  You will receive extensive personalized feedback, including seven one-to-one coaching sessions and video reviews with an experienced coach. You will finish the program with skills that will help you achieve your business goals in a broad range of communication situations.
 

First half-day

Opening

Discuss the challenging communication situations and relationships you face and link the agenda to them.

 

Set goals

You use our intellectual, emotional, and physical skills framework for effective communication to tell us your personal goals. We create a benchmark video of you.

 

Increase presence

You practice telling a brief story — expanding your use of eye contact, voice and body language — to increase your presence, confidence and impact. We make a second video of you.

 

One-to-one coaching

You review the video from your first two sessions privately with a coach.

 

Listener-focused preparation

You use our preparation tools to work on the first meeting or presentation you plan to practice.  You analyze your listeners and then create an outline with a compelling opening, clear messages and an action-oriented close.

 

Second half-day

Visual aids

Discuss how visuals support messages, where they get in the way, and how to use them well.

 

Engaging presentations

You present a ten-minute version of the material you prepared earlier in the day. You practice and receive feedback on your ability to be persuasive and engaging. We make a third video of you.

 

One-to-one coaching

You review the video of your presentation privately with a coach.

 

Third half-day

Executive summaries

You practice delivering your material from Day One as a two-to-three-minute executive summary, without visuals, to strengthen your ability to be concise and get across a memorable message.

 

Answer questions

You practice answering questions and responding to challenges on your executive summary — with credibility, confidence and empathy. We make a fourth video.

 

One-to-one coaching

You review the video of your executive summary and responses privately with a coach.

 

Fourth half-day

Persuasive meetings

We introduce additional preparation tools. You role-play a second situation — a meeting that will happen soon. You build your skills further and adapt them to the around-the-table environment. We make a fifth video.

 

One-to-one coaching

You review the video of your meeting privately with a coach.

 

Fifth half-day

 

Communicating change

We provide ideas for engaging people and motivating them to think and act differently. You prepare and role-play a third situation using these ideas.

 

Commit to a plan

You identify a few meetings over the next couple of weeks and plan the skills you will apply in each one to increase your chances of success.

 

Part Two

After a few months of workplace application, Part Two both reinforces the skills you gain in Part One and adds new skills to further strengthen your ability to persuade, influence and motivate.
