Developing Persuasive Communications
for BT Americas
This program will increase your ability to create and deliver clear, confident, and convincing communications that engage your internal and external stakeholders — and motivate them to take action. You will build skills for presentations, meetings, one-to-ones, impromptu interactions, and challenging conversations.
The program is in two parts. Each part is two-and-a-half days, divided into five half-days. If your program starts Monday morning, you will do the first and second half-days Monday, the third and fourth ones Tuesday, and the fifth one Wednesday. If your program starts Wednesday afternoon, you will do the first half-day on Wednesday, the second and third ones Thursday, and the fourth and fifth ones Friday.
You will practice in small groups so your time is used efficiently. You will receive extensive personalized feedback, including six one-to-one coaching sessions and video reviews with an experienced coach. You will finish the program with skills that will help you achieve your business goals in a broad range of communication situations.
Discuss the challenging communication situations and relationships you face and link the agenda to them.
You use our intellectual, emotional, and physical skills framework for effective communication to tell us your personal goals. We create a benchmark video of you.
You practice telling a brief story — expanding your use of eye contact, voice and body language — to increase your presence, confidence and impact. We make a second video of you.
You review the video from your first two sessions privately with a coach.
You use our preparation tools to work on the first meeting or presentation you plan to practice. You analyze your listeners and then create an outline with a compelling opening, clear messages and an action-oriented close.
Discuss how visuals support messages, where they get in the way, and how to use them well.
You present a ten-minute version of the material you prepared earlier in the day. You practice and receive feedback on your ability to be persuasive and engaging. We make a third video of you.
You review the video of your presentation privately with a coach.
You practice delivering your material from Day One as a two-to-three-minute executive summary, without visuals, to strengthen your ability to be concise and get across a memorable message.
You practice answering questions and responding to challenges on your executive summary — with credibility, confidence and empathy. We make a fourth video.
You review the video of your executive summary and responses privately with a coach.
We introduce additional preparation tools. You role-play a second situation — a meeting that will happen soon. You build your skills further and adapt them to the around-the-table environment. We make a fifth video.
You review the video of your meeting privately with a coach.
You practice listening effectively, drawing out information, and helping a colleague to solve a problem.
Then you apply active listening skills to role-play a challenging conversation — one in which you and a Finance colleague or business partner need to uncover root causes and build solutions.
Commit to a plan
You identify a few meetings over the next couple of weeks and plan the skills you will apply in each one to increase your chances of success.
