Day One

Building on the foundations of the Communication Skills Workshop

Opening

Discuss the challenging communication situations you face and your personal goals.

Conviction

You practice expressing conviction to engage people and increase presence. We create a video of you.

One-to-one coaching

You review the video from the conviction session privately with a coach.

Preparation frameworks

We refresh and reinforce the planning and organization frameworks introduced in the Communication Skills Workshop.

Executive Summary

You prepare and then deliver an executive summary of your first communication.

Conduct a meeting

You and your colleagues role-play a meeting — ideally a new business meeting with a client or a presentation of recommendations with visual aids and questions.

One-to-one coaching

You review the video of your role play privately with a coach.

Day Two

Listening, structuring compelling storylines, and establishing importance and urgency

Active Listening

You practice listening effectively, drawing out information, and helping a colleague to solve a problem.

Compelling storylines

We introduce additional preparation tools to structure communications to the needs of your clients, so you can persuade and influence.

Visual outline

You prepare a visual outline of your second communication and get feedback on it.

Complex meeting

You and your colleagues role-play the meeting you have prepared with the visual outline — ideally an internal team meeting or client meeting in which it is critical to establish the importance and urgency of an idea or project. It should be interactive and can be one-to-one, around-the-table, or teleconference.

One-to-one coaching

You review the video of your role play privately with a coach.

Day Three

Managing difficult interactions, gaining commitment to action, and communicating under pressure

Feedback

Discuss the current feedback culture at work and best practices. We encourage you to use the feedback skills developed in the program more broadly at work.

Productive challenge

We introduce a framework for motivating people to challenge the status quo and commit to action.

Meeting with controversy

You and your colleagues role-play a meeting that is difficult because the material is controversial, the people are hard to manage, or passive resistance is preventing action.

One-to-one coaching

You review the video of your role play privately with a coach.

Communicating on short notice

You practice using your communication skills in everyday situations where you do not have much time to prepare.

Commit to a plan

You identify a few meetings over the next couple of weeks and plan the skills you will apply in each one to increase your chances of success.
